Sports Agenda For Monday (9/26/11)
Big Story:
South Florida football sucks. As does South Florida baseball. And we'll throw South Florida hockey in as well. Pretty much we have the Heat, but even they are so stupid they won't play this year.
On to the agenda….
Firsties/Dolphins:
From the jaws of victory the Dolphins snatched defeat.
Seriously, this team is about as bad a group of assembled players they have had since 2007.
Let's start with the obvious:
If you'll recall, I repeatedly sang the praises of Darren Sproles as the Dolphins new scatback for third downs. But no, the morons in charge of the Dolphins decided instead to go after Reggie Bush.
Through three games here's the stat lines for both: Sproles – 8 carries for 59 yards, 1 touchdown; 21 catches for 168 yards and 1 touchdown. Bush 28 carries for 80 yards and no touchdowns; 11 catches for 71 yards and 1 touchdowns.
I love it when I'm right.
Plus, the Dolphins continue to insist on trying to run Bush in between the tackles. Seriously, the Saints knew that and no one in New Orleans was sad to see him go. Hell USC knew that as well.
But no, the Dolphins are different…yeah, they are, they are too stupid to see what even the most casual sports fan can see.
When the Browns got the ball deep in the fourth quarter yesterday, I told my wife, I betcha a thousand dollars the Browns win and it ends on an interception or fumble by the Dolphins.
Luckily she didn't bet me.
This team, if you can call it that, is just bad.
It has lots of good pieces, but there's no leadership, there's no faith, there's no confidence and all that equals bad play.
Henne is done as an NFL quarterback, Daniel Thomas is improving, but not much. Reggie Bush is a joke as an NFL player, and the Dolphins secondary can't stop anyone. It's like Gibril Wilson is still back there.
You can expect Sparano to take the fall for this in the next week or two, but it's more than just him.
Hey Mr. Ross, here's a gameplan for what to do after this season, because this season is lost.
Clean house from general manager all the way down to the towel boy.
Start with hiring a big name head coach/general manager. Not some loser like Bill Parcells, who hasn't had a team reach the Super Bowl since the 1990's. Go for a guy like Bill Cowher and let him bring in his men.
You've got to blow up this front office…including the crazy media relations people who put the stupid in stupidity.
Next they get the surging San Diego Chargers….*snickers*
College Football:
We've always got the University of South Florida?!
FIU lost to Louisiana-Lafayette, but they were without the starting quarterback and T.Y. Hilton for the most part, so I'll give them a pass.
FSU lost to Clemson, but they were without E.J. Manuel. It wouldn't have mattered, Clemson was the better team and FSU was horribly overrated this season.
UM lost to Kansas State…..really? REALLY? Are you serious? K-State has been an also-ran in the Big 12 for around the past six years. UM hasn't even hit rock bottom and there's still a ways to go. [note: My Missouri Tigers take on K-State this weekend, so we'll see if I eat my own words there.]
USF won again, as did UF.
I'm telling you, the Gators are sneaking up on people and if the keep improving, they're going to be a major factor in the SEC.
Heisman Watch:
1. Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
2. (1.a.) Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
3. Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
4. Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor (he's rising fast!)
5. Denard Robinson, QB, Michigan
Marlins: (vs. Washington, 7:10 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
Yes, that god awful logo you saw last week is the real deal. A hate from New Era was found on the net over the weekend and that awful logo fits this awful team.
The Marlins were swept over the weekend by the Brew crew from Milwaukee.
The Marlins season is almost mercifully over.
The team closes out Sun Life Stadium with a three game series starting tonight at 7:10 p.m.
If the Marlins lose all three, they'll lose 91 games this season.
C'mon guys, I know you can do it!!!!
