LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) – Detectives are asking the public for help identifying a man wanted for sexual battery on a teen girl.
Broward Sheriff's Office released the sketch of man Tuesday who they said engaged a 16-year-old in conversation, drove her to an unknown location, and sexually battered her.
The incident happened on January 22nd near Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes.
"The Broward Sheriff's Office Special Victim's Unit detectives are actively searching for this suspect," said BSO Spokesperson Gina Carter. "We don't know if this is an isolated incident with this suspect or if he has committed similar crimes like this before."
The man is described as approximately 5'10" tall with a medium complexion. Police say he has a Jamaican accent, full beard and was partially bald.
He was said to be driving a light mint green hybrid four-door car with lightly-tinted windows and gray interior.
Several students told at Boyd Anderson told CBS 4 News that they feel safe walking to and from school because there are usually sheriff's deputies in the area. However, in light of what happened they are taking precautions.
"It scares me a lot," said Akquana Colburne, a junior at the school. "Just gotta be careful and get home safely."
Shannon Copeland, who lives near the school, hopes somebody turns this guy in.
"This is the first time I've heard of anything like that and I live right beside the school, so to me that's concerning because further down there are younger children and you never know who's around and what they'll do," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Detective Michelle McCardle at (954) 321-4261 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
A reward of up to $3,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
