Shaquille O'Neal Sworn-In As Doral Reserve Police Officer
DORAL (CBSMiami) – Shaquille O'Neal, also known as Shaq, was sworn-in Tuesday as a reserve police officer at the Doral Police Department.
Perhaps answering to what O'Neal has said is his calling, the over 7-foot-tall former basketball player applied to be a reserve cop officer back in September, CBS4's news partner the Miami Herald reports.
O'Neal, 43, went through the application process as well as a background check before he was accepted, the paper said. According to the police Chief Donald De Lucca, O'Neal will be getting paid $0 and will be covering his own insurance costs.
The ceremony, attended by the mayor, city attorney, city manager, and City Council, was held at the police station Tuesday.

Before Doral, O'Neal served as a reserve cop at the Miami Beach Police Department, Port of Los Angeles Police Department, Arizona's Tempe Police Department, and the Golden Beach Police Department, according to the paper. He also worked, during his time in Miami, on the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program in Virginia.
O'Neal will be mostly doing community work in Doral where he will serve as a role model for kids, De Lucca told the paper.
