Seminoles Look To Build On Shutout

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – The 2011 Florida State Seminoles debut was solid, a 34-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe. Thanks to a loss by number three Oregon, the Seminoles will move to number 5 in the rankings by Tuesday.

The Noles had plenty to be happy about with their shutout. Coach Jimbo Fisher's offense put up 372 yards of offense, while allowing just 191 yards on defense.

Starting quarterback E.J. Manuel played a solid game, completing 22 of 34 passes for 252 yards, two touchdowns and just one interception. The running game left a little to be desired, managing just 3.3 yards per carry despite using multiple running backs.

Louisiana-Monroe did a little to help the Seminoles prepare for the Oklahoma onslaught coming in just a few weeks. The Redhawks utilized a no-huddle offense, though not to the level of Oklahoma. Still, getting exposed to a no-huddle offense in game conditions can only help the Seminoles.

The Seminoles have a glorified scrimmage this week against football championship division school Charleston-Southern. Charleston-Southern lost to the University of Central Florida 62-0 this week, so the Noles will have plenty of time to pad their stats in that game.

But, the Noles real focus is on September 17 when they will face the number one ranked Oklahoma Sooners. It will be the second matchup of top five teams this season. Oklahoma will come into the game favored, but the Noles want revenge for last season's debacle in Norman.
