SeaWorld To Temporarily Close Shamu Show

ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – Shamu and company which perform in SeaWorld Orlando's "One Ocean" show will go on a temporary hiatus in the beginning of 2014.

SeaWorld said the show will take a break from January through April for extensive maintenance on the main pool in the Shamu Stadium. The entire surface of the pool will be repainted and the thick plastic  panels that surround the outside of the pool near the lower seating sections will be replaced, according to screamscape.com.

During this work, the park's Dine With Shamu restaurant space will be re-purposed for a "Shamu Up Close" presentation where guests will learn about training methods and whale interaction.

The killer whale show at SeaWorld Orlando was recently criticized in the documentary "Blackfish" which highlighted Tilikum, the killer whale which killed a trainer in the park in 2010. SeaWorld has called the film inaccurate.
