Search Still On For Broward Schools Superintendent
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4)- The first day of school for Broward County teachers and students is less than two weeks away, but the seat of superintendent has yet to be filled.
A workshop was held Tuesday morning with a recruiting company, but so far no candidates have been announced from the county's nationwide search since Jim Notter retired from the position on June 30th. Notter held the position for just under four years and has spent a total of 25 years with the school district.
At the end of June, Broward County School District's chief operating officer Donnie Carter, 67, took over as interim superintendent.
Carter received a $16,000 pay raise, but was still considerably lower than Notter's $299,000 salary. Carter cannot apply for the position.
During his stint, Carter is expected to deal with the $170 million shortfall in the budget and will be held responsible for opening the 2011-12 school year.
The deadline to apply for the position is next week.
The school board hopes to have a new superintendent in place by the end of September.
