MIAMI (CBSMiami) - North Miami Beach police responded in force Thursday afternoon to reports of shots being fired, before giving the all-clear.

North Miami Beach police units and the SWAT team were in the area of NE 35 Avenue & NE 169 Street searching for the source of the reported shooting.

Police said, "No one is shot, and there is no hostage situation."

The investigation centered around the Eastern Shores neighborhood.

Captain Juan Pinillos with North Miami Beach said, "The less people we can have out on the streets, the better."

"Just for their safety, we prefer that they stay inside," he added.

Many people were confused and just wanted to get to their homes.

A few were standing around telling each other their stories as to how they got shooed away by police.

One woman said, "I said, sir, I live here! He said, 'I'm sorry, but you can't come in!'"

Frank Ammirati, another resident responded, "That's what he told me too! He's like, 'What street?' I was like 167, he's like, 'Alright, park your car, you could walk.'"

Images from Chopper 4 showed a strong police presence with multiple units and tactical trucks.

Police urged drivers to stay away from the area.

No other details were immediately known.

Then miraculously, around 7:30 p.m. police cleared the scene.

They did not say what prompted the heavy police presence.
