Report: Mourning Selected For Hall Of Fame

MIAMI (CBSMIami) - He has left his mark on the basketball court and on the community of South Florida and now former Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning can add one more title to his name, Hall of Famer.

Mourning will be a first ballot selection to the Hall of Fame and will join guard Gary Payton as Hall of Famers with Heat ties.

"He brought us in at the end and he was in his tailored clothes that just got ruined, which was great," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told the Miami Herald. "But it was great to see this generation of the team show the respect for one of the pillars of our franchise, and who would have thought it from the first time when he went out with the kidney disease."

The official announcement from the Basketball Hall of Fame will come over the weekend during the Final Four in Dallas.

According to published reports, guard Mitch Richmond is also expected to be inducted into the Hall with Mourning this year.

Mourning, now a team executive with the Heat, has been with the team since 1995. He was also a member of the Heat's championship team in 2006.
