PortMiami Freight Rail Service Restored
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Florida East Coast Railway will restore freight rail service between PortMiami and major U.S. markets in October.
PortMiami hasn't had on-dock rail service since the rail bridge was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
A federal grant helped pay for the restoration of the rail bridge.
By linking PortMiami to the FEC's national railway system, shippers will be able to reach 70% of the population in four days or less.
Officials plan to provide a media tour of the new services and infrastructure improvements Tuesday.
