Several people saw the collision and while many stopped to render aid to the victim, others ran after the person behind the wheel; Contreras.

"So the guy on the scooter turns right," explained Shawn Alarcon, who chased after Contreras. "I catch up with him on the scooter. The guy got caught at the red light, so we surrounded him and blocked him in. The guy with the scooter busts out the window and take the keys out of the ignition, starts tearing him out of the car. We dragged him to the middle of the street. Held him on the sidewalk till the cops pulled up."

The person on the scooter was Corey Boehne. He explained what happened after seeing the crash.

"That's when I grabbed my board, it weighs about 30 pounds, just jammed it through the driver's side window, reached in and grabbed the keys, shut off the vehicle. Put it in park the opened the door and took him out."

The badly injured victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Police have not released a name or condition of the victim.

Witnesses at the scene say he did not look good.
