Palm Beach Father Celebrates Father's Day In A Big Way

West Palm Beach (CBS4) - Surrounded by his ten children, Sergio Martinez is exactly where he wants to be on Father's Day.

"I really consider myself one of the most blessed men because I have so many kids to give me love," said Martinez.

The West Palm Beach man and his wife, Daily Martinez, had two biological children of their own and then decided to open up their hearts and homes to adoption.

"I said we would stop at Alexandria, which was the third one," laughed Martinez. "But I mean they're so many kids in need."

But adopting eight hasn't been enough for the couple. Soon they expect to adopt four more. Their van that seats 12 will no longer be large enough to transport the whole family. The kids will span the spectrum from diapers to college; a year old being the youngest and 25 years old as the oldest.

"After awhile after I would say a few months of being with them, it's like they were with you all your life no difference at all," said Martinez with a smile on his face. "I would say I've had the blessing of both things. We've had biological kids and we had adoptive kids and can you tell if there is a difference, there isn't any difference. I've loved them the same and they've loved me the same."

His biological son Pablo, 19, said he dreams of growing up to be just like his father.

"He's taught me so much and I know I'm gonna be really successful in life because of my parents, especially my dad," said Pablo Martinez.

Eleven year old Victoria broke down talking about her adoptive father.

"I think it's great to have a dad like him because he takes a lot of kids into his life and helps them out with very important things and takes us and sits down with us and talks to us," said Victoria, wiping away her tears. "I'm just so grateful to have him."

Sergio's wife works a nine-to-five job while he stays home with the kids working from the house.

"I mean there's days my wife basically writes down everything for me," laughs Sergio as his wife Daily chimes in. "April was everybody's physical and March was the dentist and we go like that," said Daily.

It is a blended family that works well because everyone does their part. Every child has a chore, the older children helping the young ones with homework and other issues. But at the head of it all Sergio sits happily, proud of the family he's created, his heart full of more love than most people can imagine.

"God willing all of our children will take after him, our boys and our girls will find husbands just like dad cause he's an incredible example to all of us," said Daily Martinez.
