According to Miami Beach police, 29-year-old Jose Derose stabbed his roommate, 55-year-old Daniel Rodolico, to death Sunday.

Police say they received a disturbance call from the Parkview Plaza at 7300 Wayne Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night.

When police arrived, neighbors said they heard "frantic calls for help" from the victim, according to the police report.

Once police gained entry to the apartment, they found Rodolico unresponsive on the floor with multiple stab wounds.

Friends of the victim say he had taken in Derose, who had been living homeless. It was his nature to help people in the community.

"He was so good of a person with everyone. He was so good. For me, he was like a son," said Rina, a victim's friend

Rina did not want to show all of her face, but she says she is devastated after losing her close friend.

Police said he died after being stabbed in the torso, arms, back and neck, inside apartment number 415.

"I'm destroyed. Believe me, he didn't deserve that. He was here for so many years," Rina said.

"We were like a family. Like a son. He was very close to me. Very close."

"He saw him in the street and brought him home to the house even though everyone knew he was schizophrenic."

"All of a sudden he changed his medication and that did not help as much as the other."

"Many people told him why have Jose there and Daniel said don't worry. He'll be ok with medication."

Kevin Baez says Rodolico had actually adopted DeRose.

Baez and others say Rodolico had a big heart.

"He was a nice kind person t everyone he met. he was extremely peaceful and extremely helpful to everybody,"
said Julio Mitrani, a victim's friend.

"I know he did his best for everyone in the building. It was sad to see him leave this world like this," Mitrani said.

Mitrani is baffled by his friend's murder.

"I don't understand what makes people turn like that and take a life."

Police had trouble getting into the victim's apartment. The door was locked and so they had to access through a neighbor's balcony.

DeRose is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.

It's not clear what he and Rodolico were fighting about.

The report states DeRose admitted he had an argument with the victim and stabbed him repeatedly with a kitchen knife.

Close friend Kevin Baez says he cared about Rodolico a lot and described him as extremely friendly and helpful.

"He was funny, he helped a lot of people," said Baez..

He said the two had fights before but "not aggressive ones."
