Arrest made in deadly 79th Street Causeway crash
MIAMI - An arrest has been made after a deadly crash Monday night on the 79th Street Causeway.
It happened near 1200 NE 70th Street, police said four vehicles were involved.
Police said one of the drivers, 24-year-old Alejandro Hall from Alpharetta, Georgia, was driving a Lamborghini Urus west over the causeway at a high rate of speed.
When he reportedly made an evasive move to avoid a collision with a Hyundai Elantra, he lost control and ended up hitting it.
On impact, both vehicles spun around. The Hyundai ended up hitting a curb. The man driving it was thrown from the vehicle and hit a street light pole. He was later airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died.
Hall's car rolled onto its side and slid into a Ford Escape, it then hit a Ford F 250. The occupants of those vehicles were not injured.
A passenger in Hall's car was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Hall has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving with a suspended license. His license was suspended in Georgia for a DUI and he was only allowed to drive to and from work, school, or the doctor.
Officers noted open bottles of alcohol in Hall's car.
"This person who was detained was under the influence of alcohol, and maybe possibly on drugs. We know that because of his bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol and we located 2 bottles of liquor in his vehicle," said Mike Vega with Miami Police.
A DUI manslaughter charge may be added pending the results of toxicology tests.
