No American Women Left In Sony Ericsson
KEY BISCAYNE (CBS4) - If you were hoping to head out to Key Biscayne and see an American woman play in the Sony Ericsson Open, you're out of luck.
The last American woman at the tournament lost her second round match. Varvara Lepchenko was beaten in straight sets by Petra Kvitova 6-1, 6-2. Lepchenko is originally from Uzbekistan and only became a U.S. citizen this year.
Also on Friday, defending champion Kim Clijsters won her opening match by routing Anastasiya Yakimova 6-1, 6-1.
