Meet Amir Sears, Columbus's two-way star, No. 1-rated athlete, and 2026 Nat Moore Trophy contender
For this week's CBS Miami Nat Moore Trophy nominee, we feature a two-way standout from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Amir Sears.
Sears, better known as "A1," is the No. 1-rated athlete in the class of 2027. He plays both ways, lining up on offense and defense on Friday nights.
Playing football like it's his last game
"I'm a dog on every down that I'm on the field," Sears said. "Because you never know when it's gonna be your last down or snap of football."
His approach to the game is straightforward. He wants to dominate on both sides of the ball and prove he can back up his confidence.
"I can lock up your best receiver and then come back on offense and do it to your best DB," Sears said. "Just showing everybody I am who I say I am."
The humility of being nominated
Sears reclassified from the class of 2028 to the class of 2027 this past summer. He committed to the University of Miami at the beginning of August.
Now, with a Nat Moore Trophy nomination to his name, Sears said he does not take the moment lightly.
"It feels really amazing watching all those guys put in the work from South Florida like Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Tony and a few other names," Sears said. "Just watching those guys win it, and now I'm just grateful that I'm in the position to win it this year, and it's really a blessing."
Despite the recognition, Sears said his father has always pushed him to stay grounded.
"Stay humble because things can be taken from you in a snap of a finger," Sears said. "Just stay true to myself and keep God first."
