MIAMI SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - A Miami Springs Sergeant is under arrest on a corruption charge.

Sergeant Andres Quintanilla, 33, was arrested on Tuesday, charged with attempting to affect commerce by extortion.

According to a filed complaint, in September 2014, an FBI confidential source told Quintanilla that he was a drug trafficker.  Instead of arresting the source, he allegedly offered advice on how the source should run his drug trafficking business.

He allegedly also provided the location of an unmarked Miami Dade Police Department Narcotics office, the names of three Miami Dade Police Department officers, and promised to provide photographs of officers in the future.

Quintanilla also allegedly researched the name of a purported drug dealer in a law enforcement database after the source had asked him to do so.

The complaint states, by December 2014, Quintanilla agreed to act as an escort during a cocaine deal.

FBI officials, according to the complaint, filmed Quintanilla during the deal while he was in uniform and driving a Miami Springs Police Department vehicle.

The complaint also alleges he received $3,500 in bribes.

Federal officials said when they spoke to Quintanilla about his involvement, he allegedly admitted to receiving bribes in return for helping the source.

Quintanilla has been suspended without pay pending the results of his criminal investigation.

Miami Springs Police said they will also conduct an internal review following the conclusion of the criminal case.

If convicted, he could face up to twenty years behind bars.
