Marlins Prep For Fanfest Replacement

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins blew up the roster, traded away every talented player not named Giancarlo Stanton, and left a bad taste in the mouths of taxpayers. But, the Marlins will still try to appeal to its fans at the team's "Winter Warm Up" scheduled for February 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Winter Warm Up could be construed as a fan fest, but the Marlins aren't calling it that, perhaps in recognition of the damage done with fans in the offseason. The activities will include a chance to meet the new players and get autographs, tour the stadium and other activities and games.

Fans can also buy full or partial season tickets at the event and walk the stadium to select their seat for the 2013 season. The Marlins also will release single game tickets for purchase during the Winter Warm Up.

For the Marlins, reaching out to fans will be crucial in the early part of the season to try to save any hopes of increasing attendance. The team has been pilloried in the media, social media, and by fans everywhere for the cost-cutting trades made in the offseason and a perceived lack of dedication to winning.

Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton expressed his frustration in social media after the firesale trade with the Toronto Blue Jays was announced. Stanton is the only All-Star caliber player currently on the roster.
