Two Dead In Three Weekend South Florida Shootings, All With Ties To Rappers
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) - A pair of deadly shootings over the weekend which reportedly involved rappers who may have been in town for the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
Chicago rapper AAB Hellabandz, 24, whose real name was Ameer Golston, was fatally shot outside the Cameo nightclub on Miami Beach, and a second person was hospitalized. No arrests have been made so far.
Golston was not on the list of performers at the festival.
Miami Beach Police released a new flyer and surveillance tape of a man who they say was captured on camera shooting Golston.
A new flyer shows the suspect and says "The subject was captured on surveillance cameras as he discharged his firearm, striking the adult victim several times." The Flyer says he is considered "armed and dangerous." He is seen running west on Espanola Way and across Washington goon Avenue at 2:37 a.m. Saturday.
Miami Beach Police spokesman, Officer Ernesto Rodriguez told CBS4's Peter D'Oench "We now have surveillance video for the first time in this shooting. This is a black male, about 25 to 35 years old. He is between 5'6 and 5'8" tall and is between 180 and 200 pounds. We are asking the public if they can help us if they have any information about this individual or his associates." The flyer also says he has a short cropped style haircut and was wearing a dark t-shirt with "DG" letters on front, a chain, light colored pants and white "Nike" brand sneakers.
Rodriguez said the situation could have been worse.
"This is early on a Saturday morning on Espanopla Way on Miami Beach and you'll see in the video that there are lots of folks there," said Rodriguez. "Thankfully no one else was wounded. They could have easily been wounded."
Rodriguez said police are trying to determine if that incident was connected to the shooting on Sunday afternoon of three people on Sunday afternoon outside Trump International Beach resort in Sunny Isles Beach.
"We are looking at connections with our local partners and our federal partners to see if there are any similarities or associates," said Rodriguez. "We are trying to piece this all together."
Also on Saturday, rapper Kodak Black was arrested shortly before taking the stage at Rolling Loud. The 21-year-old, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was charged with making a false statement while attempting to purchase a firearm.
He made his initial appearance Monday in Miami federal court. Black's attorney David Cohen said the rapper mistakenly failed to indicate he's currently under indictment while filling out the form before purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer.
On Sunday, one man was killed and two other people, including a child, were hurt in a shooting outside of Trump International Beach Resort Miami Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses told CBS4 the people involved were rappers here for Rolling Loud. Police are trying to determine if that is true.
"They had a dispute there and I walked to the liquor store and not even two seconds later I heard gunshots," said Anna Rodriguez.
When police arrived they found 19-year-old Kaylyn Marie Long with a gunshot wound inside a black suburban in front of the Trump International.
CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald reports a witness said Long is the girlfriend of rapper NBA YoungBoy. She was taken to Aventura Hospital where she was listed as stable.
Miami-Dade Police told D'Oench that a 5-year-old boy who was grazed by a stray bullet in the incident is now back home in Houston, Texas after being treated and released.
NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, was on Sunday's lineup of performers at the weekend's Rolling Loud Music Festival at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
Across the street from the resort, a man sitting in his van was killed by a stray bullet.
"We have identified that driver to be Mohammad Jradi, 43 years old," said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta.
Jradi was shot while leaving his job at the Hertz rental car agency to be with his family on Mother's Day.
"This type of behavior in this community is not acceptable," said Sunny Isles Beach Mayor Georg Scholl. "He worked here for over 10 years and we are absolutely at a loss for words over what happened to him. He was an incident victim."
"(Also) across the street there was a five-year-old little boy that was grazed by a bullet was treated by fire rescue on the scene and released," said Zabaleta.
Police seized several weapons from the hotel and are combed over multiple scenes where bullet casings and bullet holes were spotted.
Investigators also issued a Be On the Lookout bulletin for a silver GMC Yukon seen at the site of the shooting. Later Sunday, the vehicle was stopped as it tried to enter the parking lot at the music festival and police detained four men inside. Police have also confirmed they have released 11 people who were detained for questioning.
Also on Sunday, at about the same time as the Trump resort shooting, another person was wounded by bullets at the entrance of the William Lehman Causeway, which links Sunny Isles Beach to the mainland across the Intracoastal Waterway. Police have not said if these two shooting are connected.
Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson was arrested after refusing to leave a VIP area at Rolling Loud on Friday, He was charged with resisting arrest and escape. An officer says Jackson was told to leave a VIP because he didn't have a pass. The report says Jackson left, returned and then refused to leave, prompting the officer to handcuff Jackson and remove him from the area.
The report says Jackson was told to sit on a golf cart but ran away when the officer wasn't looking. Jackson was located a short time later and taken to jail.
