Last Minute Shoppers Visiting Busy Miami Shores Publix

MIAMI SHORES (CBSMiami) – As rain and wind begin to hit South Florida with more consistency, residents in Miami Shores are still out shopping for supplies.

Hundreds upon hundreds of people have visited a Publix Supermarket off Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Shores on Thursday morning making some final purchases before Hurricane Matthew begins to impact South Florida.

"We got bread, ice cream, peanut butter, just a few things to get us through the storm in case power goes out," said Stephanie, who was picking up a few last minute items with her kids. "My husband actually went yesterday and got the big stuff, this is just some extra snacks."

In addition to the supermarket itself, there has been a steady flow of people visiting the ATM outside the store as well.

There is a bit of a deadline for shoppers though as Publix has announced that it will be shutting down all stores east of I-95 from Brickell all the way up to Jupiter by noon. That area covers around 70 stores.

The remaining stores in Broward County up to Jupiter, approximately 110, will be closed by 4 p.m.

With the clock ticking, it appears that the Miami Shores location still has plenty of water and other storm supplies.
