MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Key West man accused of plotting to set off a backpack bomb in solidarity with the Islamic State group plead not guilty during his arraignment hearing in Miami.

Harlem Suarez's attorney, Richard Della Fera, entered the plea Tuesday.

Della Fera said Suarez, 23, is no terrorist. Suarez didn't speak in court. He's jailed without bail.

Suarez wanted to detonate a homemade bomb on a Key West beach, according to the FBI. He was arrested in July after taking possession of an inert explosive device.

The FBI sting began after Suarez allegedly posted pro-Islamic State rhetoric on his Facebook page.

Suarez faces life in prison if convicted of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and providing material support to terrorists.
