MIAMI (CBSMiami)— Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and Miami native Jon Secada took part in the worldwide release of his new song, "Line of Duty" on Tuesday.
The song was commissioned by the Dade County PBA as a means of promoting good relations and respect between law enforcement and the citizens they protect in every city across the union.
"I'm a product of this community and very proud as a recording artist and songwriter to have been asked to do this," said Secada. "It puts so many things in perspective in light of the world we live in today. I'm proud of my community because of the work and leadership that they have taken."
Secada collaborated on the song with Grammy winning producer Joel Someillan.
"To write a song like this was very important in the lyrics of the song that I would represent all of the issues in a very clear and objective way. That's a huge leap of faith by the PBA. It is very emotional and very powerful and we continue to live in very sensitive times. So this is hopefully a path for other PBA's in other cities to pay attention to all these things, how to unite communities, how to do the best we can as people and to really come together and that's what the song is about. It's about respect, respecting what we are, what we do and how we do it as citizens and police officers. It's about unity."
Proceeds from the song will benefit the PBA's "Love Fund, Inc." a non-profit charity that assists officers and their families during times of tragedy and need.
The video for 'Line of Duty' is still in production.

Here are the lyrics to "Line of Duty" by Jon Secada & Joel Someillan
How did we ever get this far? To where we are in this moment in time. And still searching for answers. It's a proud shade of blue, a pledge, an oath, To do what you believe is right, And taking your chances. It's never just another day, When the job's to serve while staying alive Make it through the battlefield then save us from a fight.
And the badge has never changed. To protect the ones who are not to blame Respect, respect our line of duty Understand the sacrifice It's the truth that can't be compromised Respect, respect the line of duty.
There's no easy way around this. We gotta find our common ground, differences aside And let the good inside all of us shine, shine, shine.
No one is above the law, no matter if we rise or fall. It's a leap of faith, we will get through this standing tall.
And the badge has never changed
To protect the ones who are not to blame Respect, respect our line of duty Understand the sacrifice It's the truth that can't be compromised Respect, respect the line of duty Respect, respect the line of duty…yeah.
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh
We shall overcome…we shall overcome And respect one another, understand one another, love one another.
And the badge remains the same
To protect the ones who are not to blame Respect, respect our line of duty Understand the sacrifice It's the truth that can't be compromised Respect, respect the line of duty Respect, respect the line…
spoken: "Respect the line of duty"
