MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The newest member of the Miami Dolphins organization is receiving high praise from Chicago Bear's star quarterback, Jay Cutler.

In a press conference Saturday, the Dolphins announced they had signed Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, 37, as the team's new head coach.

Cutler admitted Gase's departure was bittersweet.

"I couldn't be happier for Adam and his family," Cutler said in a statement posted on the Bears website. "He has worked extremely hard his entire career and is very deserving of this opportunity. I wish he could stay with us in Chicago, but everyone has a journey and this is the next part of his."

In 2015, Gase helped Cutler increase his yards-per-attempt (7.58) to the highest in his career and also throw the fewest interceptions (11) during a full season.

"His work with quarterbacks is well-documented and I know first-hand how good he is. He will now continue to have success in this league as a head coach. I thank him for all his hard work and look forward to following this next step in his career."

The Dolphins organization is hoping that effort can be applied to Miami's Ryan Tannehill, who arguably took a step back in his development this season.

Tannehill ranked 29th in Total QB Rating in 2015. He was 16th in 2014. Cutler finished 2015 ranked 17th. He finished 23rd the year before.
