Hurricane Michael Insurance Losses Climb To $1.25 Billion

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA) - The number of insurance claims stemming from Hurricane Michael
has increased to nearly 100,000, with an estimated $1.25 billion in insured losses, according to data posted on the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation website.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 97,909 claims had been filed as a result of the Category 4 hurricane, which made landfall Oct. 10 in Mexico Beach and tore through parts of Northwest Florida.
Most of the reported claims, 71,913, involved residential property, with 64,921 of those claims remaining open as of Tuesday.
The number of claims has climbed during the past week as recovery efforts continue. As of last Wednesday, for example, 69,950 claims had been filed, with estimated insured losses of $680.7 million.
