Hollywood Broadwalk Memorial Day mass shooting: Fourth person charged, fifth suspect sought
FORT LAUDERDALE -- Officials with the Hollywood Police Department said Sunday that a second wanted suspected shooter was taken into custody and they were continuing to search for the third shooting suspect in connection with the Memorial Day mass shooting on the Hollywood Broadwalk that left at least nine people hurt and sent holiday revelers fleeing for safety.
According to a written statement released Saturday, Ariel Cardahn Paul, Jordan Burton, and Lionel JeanCharles Jr. were named as the shooters and each is facing several charges, including one count of first-degree attempted murder, eight counts of second-degree attempted murder and one count of carrying a concealed firearm.
Paul was arrested by the Hollywood Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit on Sunday around 8 p.m.
"The Hollywood Police Department, along with local and federal agencies, are actively searching for Lionel JeanCharles Jr.," the police statement said. "All of our efforts will be coordinated and focused on getting him into custody."
Burton was taken into custody about 1:30 p.m. Saturday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force along with officers from the Hollywood Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, according to investigators.
Investigators did not immediately say where Paul or Burton was arrested or how either man was located.
Police asked for the public's help to find JeanCharles.
"We are requesting the public's assistance in locating the remaining suspects," the police statement said. "This senseless act of violence has serious consequences under the law and they will have to face these charges and answer for the injuries they caused. They let our community down and they need to come forward."
Police said an altercation between two separate groups erupted into gunfire shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Broadwalk and near the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort.
Officials have said no one died during the incident but nine people were hurt, including four minors who ranged in age from 1 to 17. The ages of the adults who were hurt ranged from 25 to 65.
According to the police statement, seven of the nine victims who were injured have been released from local hospitals, and two remain hospitalized in stable condition.
Police previously arrested two other suspects in the immediate aftermath of the shooting on weapons charges.
They were identified as Keshawn Paul Stewart and Morgan Deslouches, both 18.
