Grand Piano Mysteriously Appears On Biscayne Bay Sandbar
MIAMI (CBS4) -- South Florida already has the incredible mystery of Coral Castle, now there's a new mystery that has South Floridians scratching their heads.
It's the mystery of the grand piano which has been discovered on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay. The piano, which weighs at least 650 pounds, was placed at the highest spot along the sandbar -- it's not underwater during high tide.
Biscayne Bay's "piano bar" is located about 200 yards from the Quayside Condominiums of Northeast 107th Street.
Daniel Sheridan, a nearby resident, said he has heard of everything washing up ashore from drugs to old boots, but a piano?
"Not a piano, not a piano until now," Sheridan told CBS4's Jorge Estevez.
Many speculate on how the piano got there – one speculated that it could have been all that remained from a music video shoot. But there's still no proof that's the case.
Officials aren't sure how it got there, but they do know it won't be going anywhere unless it becomes a hazard to wildlife or boaters.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino says the agency is not responsible for moving such items. And, he adds, unless it becomes a navigational hazard, the U.S. Coast Guard won't get involved.
For now, the piano has become a fancy roost for seagulls.
