Gov. Scott To Tour Florida's Schools, Discuss Improving Education

TALLAHASSEE (AP) — Improving education is Gov. Rick Scott's goal as he tours schools across Florida to talk to teachers, students and parents about improving education.

The tour begins Monday. Scott will visit different schools each day next week.

A blog about the tour will be posted online. A student film crew also will be shadowing the governor.

Scott said Saturday that the tour will help generate ideas "to strengthen our education system to better prepare students for college and careers."

Last month, Scott released television ads in which he said the state needs a better measure of student progress. He said there should be "no more teaching to the test." The ads were sponsored by the Florida Republican Party.

Democrats dismissed the ads as an attempt to raise Scott's low poll numbers.
