Gov. Scott Names New Keys School Superintendent
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) – The former executive director of the College Board Florida Office has been tapped as Monroe County's new Superintendent of Schools.
Governor Rick Scott appointed current interim director 41-year old Dr. Jesus Jara to the position; Jara has been the chief operating officer for the Monroe County School District since February 2010.
Before that he led College Board Florida Office from 2005 to 2010.
From 2003 to 2005, Jara was principal of Springfield Public School in Massachusetts. In the years preceding the principal's post, Jara taught in Miami-Dade public schools from 1996 to 2001.
He received an associate degree from Miami-Dade College, a bachelor's degree from Barry University, a master's degree in science education from Nova Southeastern University and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Jara's term as Superintendent will come to an end in January, 2013.
