Golden Not Counting On Players' Reinstatement

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The focus for the Miami Hurricanes is beginning to shift from the Nevin Shapiro-scandal to Monday's game against the Terrapins. But, the Shapiro scandal will still have a big impact on the game.

Canes head coach Al Golden said Tuesday that he is "not counting on" having any of the eight ineligible players available for the Canes against the Terps.

One of those players that are ineligible is presumptive starting quarterback Jacory Harris. But, the Canes have an able backup in Stephen Morris, so even if Harris isn't starting, the Canes offense should be just fine without him.

The other players who are ineligible have not been released or confirmed. A total of 12 players were named by Shapiro in the Yahoo! Sports investigation that opened up the doors up on the UM scandal.

Golden has not announced his starters for week one, despite the depth chart being expected on Tuesday. Golden expects to have the starters named by Thursday, and if the players aren't cleared by the NCAA before that date, they won't play against the Terps.

Currently, the NCAA is reviewing the requests from the school to reinstate the players. But the NCAA is not working on any timetable to get the UM players reinstated for Monday's game.
