Giant Gator To Appear In Art Basel Weekend
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — The largest gator to have ever appeared in South Florida has made its way back to common waters, just in time for Art Basel.
The popular "Floating Tile Art: Gator in the Bay" will be one of the largest exhibits being displayed during Miami's art show this upcoming weekend.
It's made up entirely of refurbished items that were found in a junkyard and the pointy white teeth are made up of roofing material. When all of the parts of the alligator are put together, it will become a 104-foot by 8-foot float.
Gator in the Bay will head down the New River in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday and make its way to the Miami Yacht Club. Creators hope the art piece takes a big bite in the upcoming week to bring focus on awareness to the shrinking Florida Everglades.
Artist Lloyd Goradesky will take photos of the gator float via helicopter and seaplane.
