7 people and 2 cats are now displaced after a home fire in Fort Lauderdale, officials say

Seven residents and two cats were displaced after a house fire in an unincorporated Fort Lauderdale neighborhood on Saturday morning.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue, firefighters responded to the home located at Northwest 24th Avenue and 6th Place at approximately 9 a.m.

When they arrived, BSO Fire reported encountering smoke and flames coming from a second-floor room at the back of the home. Firefighters were then able to contain the fire to a single room, extinguishing the blaze in approximately 15 minutes after crews arrived.

Seven residents and two cats were reportedly living in the home and are now displaced because it is considered unsafe to live in, according to a poster on the door.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.
