Ex-University of Miami doctor out on bond denies sexually assaulting students, calling allegations "slanderous"
A former University of Miami urologist is out of jail and speaking out after being accused of sexually battering medical students.
Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, who served as director of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery and as a professor of urology at the University of Miami for more than a decade, is calling the allegations "slanderous" and denies assaulting anyone.
Ramasamy left the university in 2024 for a position in Dubai. He maintains he left in good standing and that his Florida medical license remains intact.
Police say the investigation involves several alleged sexual assaults dating back to 2016. According to arrest records, more than three former students told detectives that Ramasamy, who served as a mentor, performed medically unnecessary procedures on them.
Victims alleged that Ramasamy created medical issues using fake lab results, then performed prostate exams as treatment. One victim reported that he did not consent to the procedure, while another described an exam as significantly longer and more aggressive than those Ramasamy performed on other patients.
In a video statement sent to CBS News Miami, Ramasamy said the accusations are false and asserted that records from the University of Miami would exonerate him.
"I never performed any unnecessary medical procedure. I never assaulted anyone. I never sexually assaulted anyone, never," Ramasamy said.
Ramasamy was arrested at Miami International Airport on Thursday morning and appeared in bond court shortly after. He posted a $120,000 bond and is under house arrest. As a condition of his release, he has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims.
CBS News Miami has reached out to the University of Miami for comment regarding Ramasamy's claims, but they have not replied at the time of publication.
