Florida Social Workers Get Specialized Child Abuse Training

DAYTONA BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) – Dozens of social workers in the Daytona Beach area will receive training to help them head off family abuse passed down for generations.

Volusia County one of only five areas in the United States selected for the specialized training, Community Partnership for Children CEO Mark Jones said.

The training runs Monday through Wednesday.

Jones told The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1BVL1Xd ) that parents accused of abusing their children aren't often asked enough about their own histories because the questions are more investigatory in nature. He says investigators often miss opportunities to stop the multigenerational abuse.

Experts from the Chadwick Center for Children and Families will train 48 community representatives on the Child Welfare Trauma Toolkit. About a third of those will become trainers and teach the technique to others.
