JACKSONVILLE (CBSMiami/AP) — A north Florida man is facing up to life in prison after he was convicted of trying to kill a federal judge who refused to end his probation.
Aaron Richardson of Jacksonville was convicted Thursday of attempted murder and other charges associated with the 2013 plot.
He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Prosecutors say Richardson, 27, sought revenge against U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan for refusing to end probation from an earlier case.
Prosecutors say Richardson stole a rifle, went to the judge's street and fired a shot at Corrigan. The shot barely missed.
Richardson was injured by the recoil of the gun, and prosecutors say after the shooting he did research how to silence a rifle and improve his accuracy.
