Florida Loggerhead Turtle Caught In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSMiami/AP) — Instead of catching fish, a New York angler instead reeled in a 30-pound baby loggerhead turtle off a Brooklyn pier.

The turtle can grow to be 3-feet long and up to 300 pounds.

According to WNBC-TV, a silver tag attached to the reptile's flipper read "National Park Service of Florida".

Marine biologists plan to release it back into the wild.

Kaheem Evans said he was fishing off a pier in Canarsie, Brooklyn, on Wednesday when he hooked the turtle.

The 23-year-old Queens resident says he's been fishing there for years. But it's the first time he's caught a turtle.
