Florida Doctor Christian Emmanuel Sanon Arrested In Deadly Attack On Haitian President Jovenel Moïse

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A doctor who lives in Florida has been arrested in connection to the deadly attack on Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.

Police said Dr. Christian Emmanuel Sanon was one of the masterminds. They said he arrived in Haiti last month on a private jet with "political motives."

A raid on his home revealed 20 boxes of bullets, a list of the hit squad members and a DEA hat.

Sanon is alleged to have hired the 26 Colombians involved in the attack through CTU Security – a Florida-based security firm.

Most of the Colombians involved have been arrested, as have two Haitian Americans who claimed they were hired as translators.

The attackers reportedly were only supposed to arrest Moïse and then install Sanon as president.

But just how the assassins breached three security checkpoints is still unknown. And none of the president's guards were wounded in the violent attack, raising the possibility the attackers had inside help.

The White House has sent a team to Haiti to provide assistance. The delegation includes experts from the National Security Council, the State Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.

They will meet with Haitian government leaders to learn more about their needs and then brief President Joe Biden on their return.

A Pentagon spokesman said they are also reviewing a request to send hundreds of U.S. troops to Haiti.

As for Haiti's first lady, she's still being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Martine Moïse was flown there hours after the assassination attempt with gunshot wounds she suffered in the ambush that killed her husband.

CBS4 checked but no new details have been released about her condition.
