CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) -- A Broward County woman is recovering from a violent carjacking while a police report indicates that one of her attackers was quickly captured after the crime due to a smartphone application.
A Coral Springs Police search warrant and police report show that detectives tracked down Pierrot Eliazar after the January 2nd carjacking at the Coral Square Mall thanks to the victim's Find my iPhone app.
The victim told police that around 6:45 p.m. she parked her car. The next thing she knew, according to the arrest report, two men attacked her, held a gun at her and pulled her from her car before stealing it.
The men "forcefully pulled (the victim's) necklace from her neck," the report says. The report also says the men "pried (the victim's) cellular telephone forcefully from her hand."
That would be a fateful choice for Eliazar and an unidentified accomplice. The police report says the victim's Find My Iphone app led them to the victim's car at a Pompano Beach Wendy's restaurant. A short time later police say they arrested Eliazar at a Pompano Beach home with the assistance of a K-9, who bit Eliazar after he refused to comply with police demands to reveal if he had any weapons on him.
The police report says "the victim's property was found in a black garbage bag in the backyard of the residence."
Investigators said Eliazar confessed to the carjacking.
The victim took to Facebook to describe her ordeal. "It could've been worse and I could've been hurt," she wrote in an update in Spanish just days after the incident. "I thank God and my guardian angel and the Virgin Mary that my situation was not worse. I am doing better now but still a little shocked but that soon will go away."
On Facebook, the victim said she wanted to warn people to be careful when they walk to their cars in parking lots.
Coral Springs Police said they are still looking for the second suspect in this case.
