Dunn Not Done, Going Back To Court To Fight Murder Charge
JACKSONVILLE (CBSMiami/AP) - A Jacksonville man accused of killing a teen during a dispute over loud music will be in back in court this week.
Michael Dunn's lawyer is arguing that a new trial should to be held outside of Jacksonville for his client.
Attorney Waffa Hanania wrote in a motion that news coverage "has been extremely prejudicial to the defendant."
The Florida Times-Union reports that a new hearing will be held September 11th.
Jurors deadlocked in February on whether Michael Dunn was guilty of killing 17-year-old Jordan Davis of Marietta, Georgia. He was convicted on three counts of attempted murder for shooting at three others in the car with Davis in November 2012.
Witnesses said Dunn complained that the music coming from the teens' vehicle was too loud, sparking an argument. Dunn claimed self-defense and said he fired into the vehicle because he feared Davis had a weapon.
