Drug Conviction Gives Delray "Big Brother" Winner Dose Of Reality
BOSTON (CBS4) - Winning a reality show with big prize money might be enough for some people, but not for Adam Jasinski of Delray Beach. The winner of the CBS reality show "Big Brother 9" , where contestants live in a house under constant scrutiny from TV cameras is likely headed to the big house, after admitting he both sold narcotics and failed to report that income to the IRS.
Jasinski was arrested outside Boston in October 2009 and charged with attempting to sell 2,000 oxycodone pills. The prescription painkillers are often abused for their euphoric effect.
Jasinski won half a million dollars in Big Brother 9, but it seems he never reported those winnings to the IRS. Prosecutors say he didn't bother to file a tax return for 2008. That came to light after his drug arrest. He pleaded guilty in October to possession with attempt to distribute oxycodone and failure to file a tax return for 2008, the year he won the television show's $500,000 prize.
He faces a maximum 14 years on the drug charge and one year on the tax charge at sentencing scheduled for Friday.
Big Brother series features contestants who live under constant surveillance and vote weekly to evict each other in hopes of becoming the last houseguest standing and winning the grand prize.
