MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Hialeah Police have identified the suspect wanted for gunning down his 40-year-old ex-partner at a home Friday morning and are also releasing a BOLO or Be-on-the-Lookout Bulletin of him.
The BOLO says Joel Luis Polanco is wanted for 1st-degree murder and is presumed to be armed and dangerous. Police are urging all units to use caution when approaching him.
Officers arrived at the scene at 698 East 40th Street near LeJeune Road around 7 a.m. Friday and say they found the body of a 40-year-old woman with several gunshot wounds. They said the person responsible was her ex-partner.
They said he fled the scene in a dark gray, 2018 Toyota Camry with tinted rear windows.
Brian Lopez, who lives across the street from where the crime happened, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench "All I know is there were 6 shots that were fired. I looked outside and I didn't see anything. I got a car on my CCTV. That's all."
Lopez said police removed his hard drive and took it with them so they could study that vehicle.
"I thought this was very surprising considering I have never heard a gunshot before in this neighborhood. It is very saddening. I hope they catch him. He needs to go to justice."
Carmelo Gonzales, who knew both the victim and her ex-partner, said "Nobody knows that happened. You wouldn't think something like this would happen. I hope that they catch him. The guy was a nice guy and she was too. They didn't cause any problems."
Grieving family members said they did not want to say anything right now and asked for privacy.
Neighbors said they are heartbroken.
Yolanda Perez said "I was sleeping. It's horrible what happened. It's terrible."
Another neighbor, McGolly Padron, said, "It is very sad. We are living in some bad times."
Anyone who can help Hialeah police should call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers At (305) 471-TIPS (8477). There's a reward of up to $5,000.
