Shooting in parking lot of Davie beauty school leaves 2 dead, police say

Police in Davie have identified the two people who died in a shooting in the parking lot of a beauty school on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the chaotic incident began to unfold in the parking lot at the Aveda Institute on South University Drive in Davie just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

In an update on Wednesday, Davie police said a 20-year-old female, who was a student at the Aveda Institute, was shot and killed.

The shooter, who was identified as a 25-year-old man, was rushed to a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead.

Police said that the investigation showed that the victim and shooter knew each other and had previously been involved in a relationship.

No other information about the victim or shooter have been released.

In addition, two schools located near where the shooting took place were put into lockdown.

"It's scary. You know? You always think the worst because of what happened in Parkland," parent Monica Garcia said. "It's really, really scary. But, you know, you pray and you hope that everybody is safe."

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call them.
