Confiscated Candy Turns Out To Be 'Meth'

LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami)-- Ten pounds of what looked like candy ended up being methamphetamine also known as meth, investigators said.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, authorities seized the "candy" earlier this month during a drug sting in Lauderhill.
The bags were in bright packaging labeled with Spanish words like "Piñata and some of the candy had been made to look like lollipops, court records say.
As part of the sting, authorities arrested Jorge Maldonado, 24, of Okeechobee, and traced the drugs back to a Bradenton home.
Maldonado was arrested last week on federal charges of conspiring to distribute meth and possession with intent to distribute the illegal stimulant.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges in a Fort Lauderdale federal court and remains behind bars in Broward.
If convicted, he could face 10 years to life in federal prison.
