MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami-Dade commissioner wants to end the county's ban on pit bulls.

Tuesday, the county commission will meet to decide the fate of the nearly 30-year-old ban.

The county originally enacted it in response to a pit bull biting off part of the face of an 8-year-old girl in West Kendall

Critics argue the ban mistakenly blamed a dog's breed instead of its owner for hostile behavior.

The commission can repeal the existing law.

A referendum campaign to repeal the law a few years ago failed badly, with 63 percent voting against it.
