Coast Guard Evacuates Injured Passenger Off Carnival Victory

MIAMI (CbsMiami) – It was the U.S. Coast Guard to the rescue after an 88 year-old man was injured on a cruise ship northwest of Cuba.

The Guard evacuated Herman Steidel Lebron, 88, from Puerto Rico from the Carnival Victory cruise ship Sunday morning.

The Coast Guard 7th District command center received the report from the Victory stating Lebron suffered internal injuries during the cruise. After consulting with the flight surgeon, he was recommended for medical evacuation.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater launched MH-60 and C-130 aircrews in response to the emergency. Lebron is being transported to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West.
