Casey McGehee Named NL Comeback Player Of The Year

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins season may be a thing of the past but reasons to celebrate are still popping up.
On Monday The Sporting News announced that Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee has been named the National League Comeback Player of the Year.
McGehee excelled both at the plate as a hitter and in the field playing third base.
Following a year full of struggles in 2012, he spent the entire 2013 season playing in Japan and returned to the MLB a better player due to the experience he gained while playing overseas.
During his 2014 campaign with the Marlins, McGehee hit .287 with four home runs and 76 RBI's. He led the team with his .319 average with runners in scoring position, ranking amongst the league leaders throughout the season in that category, finishing 14th.
McGehee is the first player in Marlins history to receive this award.
He beat out Tim Hudson of the Giants, Matt Kemp of the Dodgers and Starlin Castro of the Cubs, all of whom received votes by their National League peers. McGehee received 26 votes while Hudson got 17, Kemp 15 and Castro two.
The Marlins signed McGehee to a one-year contract last December worth $1.1 million. There has been talk of the team offering McGehee a new deal but don't expect any news on that front to come until we get closer to the annual Baseball Winter Meetings, which take place December 7-11 in San Diego.
