SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE(CBSMiami) - Police have a mystery on their hands after a burned body was discovered in a field in southwest Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade Police are not saying how badly burned the person was but a law enforcement source said investigators discovered the body of a male.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Argemis Colome told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that at 11:17 a.m. a call was received from an unidentified person that the body had been discovered in the field off S.W. 240th St. at S.W. 159TH Ave.
Miami-Dade Police sealed off a section of S.W. 240th St. and set up a mobile command center and investigators searched for clues and evidence.
Colome said the age and race of the person was not known. It was also not clear exactly how the person died.
Angela Zayas has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years.
"This is kind of crazy," she said. "This is kind of crazy because here in this area we don't see these kinds of things."
She said, "This is a wonderful area. Nobody bothers you and neighbors are far apart."
"I hope they get to the bottom of this," she said. "I guess, what worries me, is that we live so close to each other and we never had this sort of thing happen before."
Miami-Dade Police said anyone with information should call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
