MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- It was about 6 a.m. on Sunday when a man and woman walked into a Denny's Restaurant on Oakland Park Boulevard. A female employee would later tell detectives they reeked of gasoline.
Then, they threatened her with some.
Surveillance cameras rolled as the couple walked in. BSO says audio recorded the worker commenting on the odor.
"You guys are either working on cars," the worker says.
BSO says the man and woman appeared to be interested in ordering take out but then revealed their true intentions – robbery.
Investigators say the man had a water squirt in his hand that he claimed contained gasoline and a lighter. BSO says he threatened to set the worker on fire if she didn't hand over money, which she did.
BSO investigators want him caught.
"Imagine someone walking in and threatening to set you on fire if you don't give them what they want," said BSO Spokesperson Gina Carter. "This is an horrific act to threaten."
Investigators say this isn't the only time they've made this threat.
BSO says the pair used a note at a Hallandale Beach Denny's later that same day that said, "Really sorry Empty the register as quickly and calmly as possible We have GUNS and Gas Bombs."
In that incident they left empty-handed.
Detectives say surveillance cameras got a good look at the duo at a Dania Beach 7-Eleven on Tuesday.
BSO says they didn't threaten anyone in the store but the woman did steal about $30 bucks worth of food before climbing into the black car and driving off.
After three crimes in three days, BSO is hoping someone in the community turns them in.
John and Alma Brown are regular Denny's customers. They looked at the surveillance images and heard the details of the story and wonder what the world is coming to.
"Things have gotten to the point where you don't want to go anywhere because of these kinds of things," John Brown said.
"They're vicious," said Alma Brown. "They're mean. They're evil. That's all I can say. They're evil."
Detectives say they are looking for a white male in his 20s, approximately 160 lbs. and 5'6" with a thin build. The female is described as white, in her 20s, approximately 140 lbs., 5'5" with a heavy frame and multiple scars on her face.
