BSO Deputy Accused Of Stealing Drug Dealer's Cash
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - A Broward Sheriff's deputy found himself on the other side of law Tuesday after authorities arrested him for allegedly stealing approximately $1,200 from a drug dealer's home.
Albury A. Burrows, 40, who had been a deputy with BSO for 11 years, is accused of taking money from an apartment at 1371 NW 18th Dr., apt. 104 filled with marijuana plants on December 5, 2009.
In an arrest affidavit, BSO said Burrows was the officer in charge of the team tasked with investigating the crime. He left to obtain a search warrant.
Other deputies at the scene made an arrest in the case and discovered that one of the suspects had $2,452 on him. Deputies told Burrows about the cash and Burrows directed a deputy to leave the money on a table in the apartment's living room.
Burrows returned to the scene and "instructed his team to go and have lunch and refused all assistance from his team members…to secure the crime scene," the arrest affidavit states.
Burrows remained in the apartment alone until another sergeant arrived. Both counted the money and arrived at a different total of $1,232.
Burrows became the prime suspect because he was the only one who had been alone in the apartment and "no other person had the means or opportunity to enter the locked door of apartment 104," the affidavit states.
BSO said Burrows has been suspended without pay.
