MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Superstar Beyonce' and Jay-Z made headlines last week when they made a surprise trip to Cuba. The trip has drawn the attention of both Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
Both representatives have asked the Treasury Department to explain the type of license the super couple received to travel to the Communist nation. U.S. citizens are forbidden to travel to Cuba for mere tourism, though they can get a license for academic, religious, journalistic, or cultural exchange visits.
Beyonce' and Jay-Z chose to go to Havana to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.
Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart have Cuban-American lineage. Both also support the 51-year-old embargo against the Communist nation.
The Treasury Department hasn't commented on the request from Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart.
CBS News' foreign desk confirmed the visit by Jay-Z and Beyonce was licensed by the Treasury Department for cultural purposes.
