Arrest Made In Miami Beach Hotel Sex Assault

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man police believe is a sexual predator that fled Miami after a violent sexual assault on a tourist has been arrested.

The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Central California arrested Derrick Jackson, 28, in Bakersfield, California.

Jackson was allegedly captured on surveillance cameras on September 6 following a woman into an elevator at the Breakwater Hotel on Miami Beach.

The woman claimed she was sexually assaulted and then forced back to her apartment where she was robbed.

Jackson's picture was released several days later and police said he fled the Miami area.

US Marshals and Miami Beach detectives said they received information Jackson was in the Sacramento, California area.

Jackson was located at a Motel 6 in Bakersfield.

According to detectives, Jackson has a history of committing violent sexual assaults and kidnapping his victims.

He was convicted of kidnapping, sexual assault, burglary, strong armed robbery and grand theft in March, 2006. He was released from prison in January, 2011.

Jackson will be extradited back to South Florida. He has been charged with sexual battery by threats, kidnapping, and strong armed robbery.
