No injuries reported after car catches fire after Amtrak train collision in Fort Lauderdale
A car caught on fire after being struck by an Amtrak train on Saturday evening at a Fort Lauderdale intersection, according to fire rescue officials.
The collision happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest 9th Avenue and West Prospect Road, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. The agency received multiple 911 calls that reported the crash and said that a vehicle was on fire.
Crews from both Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived to find the vehicle burning alongside the stopped Amtrak train. They quickly put out the fire and boarded the train to check on passengers and crew.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire, no one inside the vehicle was injured. On the train, no injuries had been confirmed, but fire officials said they were assessing two people at the scene.
As of their initial report, no one had been transported to the hospital, but this could change as the situation is still developing.
